IAN WILKINSON
My passion for all things wood stared when I began my apprenticeship as a joiner at 16 years old in Selby, some 40 (or so!) years ago. After which, I spent 6 months in the Sudan doing Voluntary Service Overseas. Since qualifying, I spent many years as a joiner specialising in cabinet making, bench joinery and building work both in the UK and in Germany.
I set up Yorkshire Woodland Products in 1993 when I was felling trees and making charcoal in Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire. I lived in my showmans caravan in the forest full-time and supplied charcoal to local garages, garden centres and shops all around Yorkshire. I felt very at home being outside and surrounded by nature.
In 2000, I bought my own piece of woodland here in East Riding of Yorkshire, built my cabin to live in and grew my business selling homemade traditionally kilned charcoal, logs, timber, furniture, bespoke pieces and joinery services from my yard.
I love sharing my passion for wood and helping my customers to understand the best species of wood to suit their requirements. If you have a timber project in the pipeline and would like to know the best wood to use, I’m more than happy to advise.
